CHOOSING THE RIGHT GLASSWARE

When drinking your beer, it is important to select the correct glassware if you want to enjoy it to its fullest.  The correct glassware ensures that you smell the aromas and drink it as the brewmaster intended you to.

There are few tips you can use to make sure that you choose the correct glass:

BUY THE GLASS FROM THE BREWERY

Many breweries will sell glassware branded with their logos and chosen specifically to showcase their beers.  Buying a glass directly from the brewery (or from stores that specialize in glassware), particularly for beers that you commonly drink is a great way to make sure you have the correct glassware.

BUY TASTING / SAMPLER GLASSWARE DESIGNED FOR BEER

There are several glassware companies that sell sets for a variety of beer styles.  These sets vary in price from affordable to high-end glassware and are perfect for those who want non-branded vessels.

These often go on sale in stores and so it’s always a good idea to shop around and pick them up when they do.

USE A COMPARABLE GLASS BASED ON THE BEER STYLE

If space is an issue and you want to minimize the number of glasses you keep, you can always find a similarly shaped glass for the beer style you are drinking.  For instance, any tulip glass (red wine, brandy, etc.) could be a good substitute for a Trappist ale.  A pilsner glass is a pilsner glass, regardless of the brand and a pint glass serves the job for many different brews.
